WingTsun (pronounced “wing chun”), is a practical and effective martial art originally from Southern China. As the legend goes (because it IS a legend), a nun named Ng Mui invented an art designed to counter the traditional Shaolin styles of around 300 years ago. Her first student was a young woman named Yim WingTsun, and thus this art was named. WingTsun literally means ‘praising spring.’
WingTsun was designed to provide people (women) of lesser strength and size with a practical, effective, yet quickly adaptable self-defense method that would level the playing field. Pure muscular strength and size are not necessary for training WingTsun, because it is designed to take advantage of the opponent’s strength and size as needed.
Through positioning, angles, flexible usage of force and integrated body awareness, the WingTsun adept will be able to take the most efficient path to victory, to borrow force when necessary, and to strike unerringly when the way is open!
At Art of WingTsun classes are taught in a group format, but every student moves at their own pace and receives individual attention. How fast will you progress? Only so much as your work! Art of WingTsun also offers private instruction which can enhance and speed up your progress; please talk to the instructors for details.
